What to put in your first time capsule

Blank pages are intimidating. Your first capsule does not need to be profound. It needs to be honest enough that future-you will care.

Easy first seals

• A photo from this week and one sentence about why it mattered
• A voice note you would rather not hear until next year
• A letter to yourself on a birthday or graduation date
• A playlist of links or a short “state of my life” checklist
• Something small you are proud of—and afraid you will forget

What to skip (for now)

• Passwords and recovery codes in a public capsule
• Other people’s private messages without consent
• Anything you might need to edit next week—pick a real unlock date and commit

Make the unlock date mean something

Align unlock with a moment: New Year, a move, five years from today. The calendar is part of the gift.

Then seal it

When the text feels “good enough,” seal. The magic is the wait, not the perfect draft.
